JOZEF VAN WISSEM
"Composer and lutenist Jozef van Wissem is devoted to what he terms “The Liberation of the Lute”.... His music is uncluttered and direct, with a viscerally hypnotic and emotional impact, delivered with an ascetic intensity reflected both in his Biblical titles and his No Wave influences. An incessantly touring musician, van Wissem’s hypnotic live shows have taken him all over the world." http://www.jozefvanwissem.com/

JON ERIKSEN

"Jon Eriksen is a visual artist and noise musician. His artworks deal with extreme cultures, and particularly with the subcultures and dialectics of extreme music and film. His video works are made from found material; he utilizes short snippets from television and feature films and works with them in loops and cut-up sequences. The video works are dominated by collisions, noise theory, and overdrive aesthetics." http://joneriksen.com/

NATE BONTRAGER

"Nathan Bontrager is an active and wide-ranging cellist and educator. Currently based out of New Haven, CT, he performs frequently in the New York/New Haven area in addition to touring both nationally and internationally. While classically trained (MM from the University of Maryland), Bontrager has taken the technical foundation laid in years of study into the worlds of experimental, folk, and early music(s)." http://nathanbontrager.com/

Very glad to announce the return of Glenn Jones to the Elm City. And while Glenn was here not too long ago, he has been very busy. First off, he's just released a new LP, his first on Thrill Jockey, and it is been getting great reviews. "The Wanting" finds him at the top of his game, it really doesn't get any better. This coming from a man who...
"Before embarking on his solo career, Glenn put out nine albums with the Boston based psych band Cul de Sac over the course of their 20 year history, some of which included collaborations with Damo Suzuki and John Fahey."
Not too shabby, nope, not at all.
But it gets even better: Glenn is the editor of a new John Fahey archival collection, "Your Past Comes Back to Haunt You (The Fonotone Years 1958-1965)" out now on the esteemed Dust-to-Digital record label. Just when you think you've heard it all, he's back for more. Thankfully. And you catch him right here in New Haven, at Never Ending Books. Come see this masterful finger picker shred on his acoustic guitar, no amp necessary. Just a man, his six string, and some modified capos. This will not disappoint. Come one, come all.

Colorguard is the hidden gem of New Haven. Her sets are always unique and special. Some folks may remember Kryssi Battalene as one half of (the now de-funked) "Popeye's Garage", the Elm City's favorite off-the-map, off-the-radar, off-the-planet performance space that hosted many incredible shows in its brief life. Some folks may recognize her as the axe-wielder in The Mountain Movers. All will agree, she is out of this world! Please arrive early and catch this rising star. Her sets range from the sublime to the visceral. This will no doubt be very special!

It's been an amazing ride but all things must pass and this too shall pass... after a few healthy seasons of some of the best in underground sounds, Popeye's Garage will be calling it quits after September. Yes, sad but true, October and beyond we will be Popeye's Garage-less. But this last week of shows is stellar and this one in particular has us very excited.

Female are a mindfuck but you'll keep coming back for more...

H. is our good friend from France. Existing somewhere in the noise/ambient/hypno realm, she's got some great tracks to be found here:

Colorguard melts your polar caps with some serious shredding, trust me, I've seen it happen before...

Chris Point is known for bringing people to the edge of sanity and moral reason with his harsh noise. Noise not music.
